Collingswood SAT AUG 03
Forecast for SAT AUG 03
The first “iffy” weather forecast of the season
Early morning thunderstorms are rare. And they’re more often forecast INCORRECTLY than CORRECTLY. Still, the weather is something to keep an eye on this week.
If weather is truly severe, we’ll still have a Market, but we may invoke the “everybody under PATCO” rule. For more on what that might look like, scroll all the way to the bottom of this post.
For now, let’s take heart that the forecast is for SCATTERED thunderstorms and hope they scatter somewhere else.

Official forecast for SAT AUG 03
We’re going to go ahead and predict SUN for SAT.

Peach Pie Contest!

THE 08108 PEACH PIE
Sharp eyes will have spotted the Zip Code spelled in pie crust. Tomorrow SAT AUG 03, to kick off Jersey Fresh Peach Month, we’ll host our annual Peach Pie Baking Contest. The roster is closed to new contestants (we reached our limit of 24 pies!), but it’s not too late to stop by during judging—it starts at 10am—and follow the tabulating of scores for Best Presentation, Best Peach Only pie, and Best Peach Plus pie.
Collingswood Foods SAT AUG 03
Collingswood Section. To emphasize our own community’s food economy, at the west end of the Market, Collingswood food businesses have their own section to promote their contributions to the Borough’s vibrant food scene.

EMPANADAS FROM EL SITIO
Revolution Roasters handles the fresh-roasted beverages, while El Sitio provides fantastic Ecuadoran specialties including empanadas and Pan de Yuca (cassava cheese bread treats). Villa Barone features familiar favorite sauces, tasty zeppolis, sometimes their own fresh mozzarella. Sara’s Produce by special arrangement is the one source for produce NOT grown in New Jersey. Lost Bread Co. of Philadelphia has taken up the familiar bakery space.

Rather than struggle with her own garden, this year, Lisa has been getting her tomatoes from Springdale Farms, Savoie Organic Farm, and Flaim Farms at the Collingswood Market. Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). Quick and Easy Zucchini Bread! You may remember Susan’s recipe for “Z Bread” from an earlier season. This week’s recipe is a quicker and simpler version that results in a single loaf that takes a few minutes to construct and about an hour to bake. Her zucchini comes from A.T. JOHN ROSSI brings his guitar to the west stage for good-time tunes, silent singalongs, and general joyfulness. Often he’s joined by Jerry Mayall and six more strings.

Small Bills
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day.

VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.
Flexible Site Plan
Changes will continue to occur throughout the season as vendors come and go and as we learn more about how neighbors interact. I remind you no spaces are ever guaranteed and require your cooperation if I have to move your location any given week.

Revised Weather Cancellation Plan
In 2018, we cancelled once for a forecast.
The weather forecast was dire, mostly for the tornado-intensity winds that were expected, so, although the Governor did not issue a Weather State of Emergency, we pre-emptively cancelled the Market.
The projected conditions did not materialize.
That was a mistake I don’t want to repeat.
So:
My recommended solution.
- We will cancel the Market only if the Governor declares a Weather State of Emergency for Camden County.
- In the absence of a State of Emergency, but when heavy rain or wind
are severe enough that individual vendors elect to skip the Market,
or if we decide to cancel live music, volunteers, and nonprofits . . . we’ll relocate all participating farm and produce vendors to spaces beneath the Speedline. - The plan below this list is a draft of how the Market could be run on a Severe Weather day.
- Most vendors will need to scale back their operations to find space under the Speedline, but we won’t have to cancel the Market.
- Feedback welcome.

Week 8 of the 2019 Season

We finally got a forecast we deserve. Looking forward to a beautiful Market day with mostly sunny skies, low humidity, little chance of rain, and temperatures in the mid-80s. Shopping weather! Spending weather!

Weather Policy

FOR THU JUL 25. A few changes to last week’s siteplan.
- Boheme Foods has the week off.
- We have a returning artist this week (Amy Eckert)
- We have a returning music act, Glenn McCollum.
- Big Catch has no staff for this week, but will return.
Load In
ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 2PM. THE ONLY ENTRANCE IS FROM HIGH STREET.
15 MINUTE TIME LIMIT FOR UNLOADING IN THE MARKET.
As you can see, the space is tight for the number of vendors, and getting in and out of our spaces will require planning and patience. Unless you have permission to park a vehicle inside the Market, you’ll have to drive carefully to your spot, unload VERY QUICKLY, then EXIT THE MARKET with your vehicle and set up when you return.
You can use (and tell your new customers to use) 2 High Street Mount Holly NJ
as a destination for mapping programs.
Contracts and Fees
Those of you who have not submitted your Application/Contract paperwork need to comply to remain active at the Market and to take advantage of the Fee Rebate Program.
Download the Application from the Mount Holly Contracts link at the top of this website. Complete the app in Word, in PDF, or on paper, and send it to Sean Kennedy, whose name and address are on the first page of the contract package.
FEE REBATE PROGRAM
Prepay your dates to qualify for Fee Rebates. Earn a full 100% rebate for table fees for every Market you attend. Prepay for 10 dates (for example), attend those 10 dates, and you’ll be refunded 100% of your fees at the end of the season.
DAY PAY VENDORS
Afraid of commitment? You can pay on Market day. The Market Director will have receipts for day-pay vendors who prefer the flexibility of paying when they attend, but no rebates can be earned without prepaid dates.

We were very visible on Facebook last week. Not so much this week. If anybody wants to help keep us in front of the local shopping public, let David know you want to lend a hand. Click the link to see what we’ve been up to.

The directions will bring you to the Rowan College campus just across the street from the entrance to the Market.
Facebook Promotion
We were very visible on Facebook last week. Not so much this week. If anybody wants to help keep us in front of the local shopping public, let David know you want to lend a hand. Click the link to see what we’ve been up to.
New Website
The Township produced a sharp-looking website for our shoppers who think facebook is evil.

Let David know if you want to be on the Featured Vendors’ list for THU JUL 11. We welcome all our vendors to provide us with information about their farms and foods. Shoppers appreciate knowing more about you.

Small Bills
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day.

Flexible Site Plan
Changes will continue to occur throughout the season as vendors come and go and as we learn more about how neighbors interact. I remind you no spaces are ever guaranteed and require your cooperation if I have to move your location any given week.
