Collingswood SAT JUL 15, 2017
Most Important Word in any Forecast?
Dry!
Mostly cloudy but dry. Humid but dry. Probably muggy at setup but dry.

Official Forecast SAT JUL 15
Temperatures of 70 or better to open, 80 or better to close. Humidity pretty unbearable during setup, improves during the Market hours. Light breezes. Not bad at all. Good food-buying weather!

Site Plan for SAT JUL 15
We’re full to bursting, with room for not one more vendor or attraction. Blue Moon returns to the BID section. Our Souls Shine is back sauce from organic apples. Weckerly’s Ice Cream, Green Aisle Grocery, and Flour + Oats cookies are back. The Oaklyn Pantry and Don’t Bully Us are in the house collecting food and distributing adoptable animals. Our good friends from 4PawsNJ will dispense leashes and take applications for new pets too. AND live music from She Hates Me! and the revolving door of musicians that make up Sam Caruso’s pickup band.

What’s In Season! SAT JUL 15
Eckert’s will be back with corn and lots of it. If customers are getting low on their favorite salad dressings or jams they’ll have a full selection.
Fruitwood Farms will have beets, blueberries, sweet cherries, corn, cucumbers, nectarines, peaches, donut peaches, radishes, squash, string beans, tomatoes and honey. NJ goodness!
Hillacres Pride reports, “This week at Collingswood it is chicken week! Our freezers are full of our pasture raised chickens. Stock up on whole chickens at a great price. We are accepting pre-orders for savings on 6 packs of leg & thigh or boneless breast. As usual we will be well stocked on cheeses, and our delicious meats. If this weather is too hot for you, grab some of our farm fresh yogurt and some fruit and make a great smoothie!”
Origin Almond is bringing back the Cinnamon Horchata, a very popular seasonal almond milks. This modern twist on a festive summer favorite combines fresh almond milk with made-from-scratch organic brown rice milk which is then infused with organic cinnamon and real vanilla bean specks. Delicious when enjoyed with smoothies or cereal but even better on its own in a chilled glass. Stop by and try a sample!
The Treehouse is more “hole-istic” this week with handcrafted blueberry bagels featuring the Jersey Fresh blues of Green-Ford Blueberry Farm and Peaches-n-Cinnamon Cream Cheese with Jersey Fresh peaches from Schober and Son’s. Get cream cheese for sale in half pound containers or some to put on a tasty bagel at the Market. Available while supplies last.
It’s another “fruitful” market for Cheese Etc. & Gourmet Gifts. Check out their summer spreads: Blueberry Goat, Spiked Peaches & Cream, Lemon Shandy Beer Spread and Berry Grigio (with wine from Valenzano’s Winery!)
BID Vendors SAT JUL 15
Dulce Artisanal Pastries, Villa Barone, Charlie’s Crepes, Cheese, Etc., Blue Moon Olive Oils, and Sara’s Produce will represent BID vendors at the “top” of the Market.

Grilled Bruschetta

Leanne Entwistle (The Creped Crusader). Leanne went with cherry tomatoes fresh from Formisano Farms at our own Market, and a baguette from Wildflour Bakery for her grilled bruschetta. This recipe takes the indoors outdoors by producing bruschetta on the grill. Fresh mozzarella and basil is about all you’ll need to make this perfect appetizer or accompaniment for grilled chicken and a salad. Ah, summertime! See the simple preparation instructions by clicking through to Leanne’s blog here.
Blueberry Crumble Bars

Stef Perna (treatbelly) treats us to a special dessert item this week using a very short-lived commodity: the New Jersey Blueberry. It’s already too late to buy the organic berries she got from our cherished vendor Brookeberry Farms (They’re done for the season), but you can find plenty of berries from Hammonton at the Market this week from our other produce farms. Sugar, flour, butter and excellent blueberries combine here to make a crumble-topped masterpiece. See the details here.
Aunt Gig’s Refrigerator Pickles

Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). Nobody knows the produce offerings at the Market better than Susan. She’s shopped cucumbers from Viereck Farms, Springdale Farms, DanLynn, and Savoie Organic. Garlic from Savoie, Flaim, Formisano, and DanLynn. Dill from both Flaim and Formisano. For these pickles, she went with crisp white Kirby Pickles from Savoie for the mild, delicate flavor and their crunch. Pick your own favorites and get the simple preparation instructions here.

Artist of the Week

222 Creations. Maria Cartwright creates torch-fired copper enameled jewelry. Each colorful and unique item is created individually and then hand fired with a torch. So, you could say, she spends her professional life playing with fire. But you’re more likely to just say, “Wow. Beautiful colors!” Read More.
Music SAT JUL 15

East Stage Music Tent. We’ve got music from She Hates Me! this week, which means newly-elected member of the Camden County Democratic Committee Shannon McGill Vasile will be singing pretty with Kevin Sullivan, who is better at crashing parties than joining them.
West Stage below PATCO. Market Favorite Sam Caruso brings out the fun in every repertoire and usually encourages one or more of his talented friends to stop by for some spirited collaboration.
Music starts at 9 AM on both stages, every week, rain or shine.
Salsa Content Results

Denine Gorniak (The Bicycle-Chef) drove up from the shore to judge salsas in our Second Annual Salsa Contest. She also richly chronicled the event, with commentary, analysis of the individual recipes, personal reflections, and fantastic photos of the entries and the event. If you attended, you’ll see your favorites. If you missed it, you’ll get all the details at Denine’s blog.
For Animal Lovers

Our good friends 4PawsNJ will be staffing the official Dog Tent in the middle of the Market this week, dispensing wonderful advice, offering adoptable animals (like Molly here) for your forever companionship, and selling the official Market Leash permits.
Meanwhile, down at the Perkins end of the Market, Don’t Bully Us will be in attendance too. They bring a wading pool on hot days and a petting pen where you can get to know some adoptable pit bull rescues.
Good for the Heart

Our sponsor Lourdes Wellness partners with the Oaklyn Food Pantry to collect food donations for our food-vulnerable neighbors. Since their first appearance at the Market, we’ve donated more than the weight of an adult elephant in fresh produce.
BUY 2 / GIVE 1 of anything if you can.
Small Bills and a Bathroom Key
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day. For guest vendors who might not be aware, I also have a key to Perkins Art Center, a Market sponsor, the primary benefit of which, for our vendors is INDOOR PLUMBING!

VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.
Flexible Site Plan
Changes will continue to occur throughout the season as vendors come and go and as we learn more about how neighbors interact. I remind you no spaces are ever guaranteed and require your cooperation if I have to move your location any given week.

Zucchini 3 Ways

Zucchini 3 Ways! We love that Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) uses produce from SO MANY of our farm vendors. For her three recipes this week, she identifies: AT Buzby, Savoie, Viereck, and Springdale for zucchini; AT Buzby, Savoie, Formisano, and Flaim for onions; AT Buzby, Viereck, and Springdale for tomatoes; Our Yards Farm for spices; Villa Barone for olive oil and pasta; Hillacres Pride for butter; and AT Buzby and Viereck for corn. For ratatouille, zucchini bread, and zucchini spaghetti, follow the link by clicking here.
Roasted Purple Carrots

Roasted Purple Carrots! Sarah Licata (Salt Jar). Sarah got her purple carrots from Formisano Farms. She used the tops to make a fresh gremolata (a blended mix of fresh herbs, garlic, and lemon juice, like a pesto without nuts and cheese) The roasting took just 30 minutes, and dinner was ready in about 45, with very little work. You can do the same, and serve with a bit of chicken and/or potatoes. You can even roast everything together for a one-step mean. Find the specific instructions and Sarah’s gorgeous photographs at her blog by clicking here.

Music SAT JUL 08

WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. Are they jazzy? Do they swing? Are they cutting-edge or nostalgic? Yes. TRIO NOVA DUO are all this and more. You may not be able to name them, but you’ll recognize most of the tunes, from the bossa nova, jazz, and pop catalogs.
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. Market Favorite Sam Caruso brings out the fun in every repertoire and usually encourages one or more of his friends to stop by for some spirited collaboration.
Music starts at 9am on both stages, every week, rain or shine.
THIS WEEK!

For the Kids

SAY IT WITH CLAY. Our good friends from Say it with Clay will staff a table with clay and tools for kids (adults too) to try their hand at modeling. They’ll take advantage of the opportunity to promote their camp, their art therapy programs, and workshops. Come on by and “work some mud.”
For the Animal Lovers

IN THE DOG TENT. Our friends from Almost Home Shelter have 27 animals available for adoption. Pictured left is Finnegan, ready to go home with you pending your successful application. Get the process started on Saturday at the Dog Tent. All dogs adopted from our Almost Home Shelter will be spayed/neutered prior to leaving the facility. Watch out for this one: spending just a few minutes with him might make you helpless to resist him.

Summer Zucchini Cake

Stef Perna (treatbelly) found not only oversized zucchini at the Market this week, but also yellow Boothby Blonde pickling cucumbers and heirloom garlic from Savoie Organic Farm, as well as ten pints of organic blueberries from the Blueberry Lady (Brookeberry Farm). That zucchini, with a bit of homemade peach jam, became this week’s lightly sweet moist and wonderful zucchini summer cake. You can do it too with the easy recipe you’ll find by clicking here.
Deviled Eggs 3 Ways

Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) picks up lovely brown and pale green eggs from her favorite source for eggs at the Market, DanLynn Organic. Here she prepares a traditional mayonnaise and mustard version, but also a version with a secret ingredient (you’ll have to click to the blog to find out what), and a third using chopped prosciutto and micro greens. Pretty Dismal Forecast.
We don’t seem to be able to catch a break with weather this season. The forecast at this hour calls for rain through the night on Friday and a fair chance of rain, even thunderstorms all morning. Once again, we have to hope the forecasters are just plain mean.

Official Forecast SAT JUN 24
Not just wet, but winds of 11 mph. Temperature looks good. *SIGH*

Site Plan for SAT JUN 24
Brookeberry Farms Organic Berries will be back for another week, and we’ve heard rumors of very early corn from Les Viereck and Fruitwood Farms (maybe Buzby too). But the familiar Eckert corn truck at the west end will be another week. Rick Hymer will be back after a one-week break. We’ve got a Kids Activity at Extraordinary Ed, a Chef Demo by Kitchen Kapers Cooking School, and a Henna Tattoo artist at the east end of the Market. Constellation Collective, Knife Sharpening! Music on 2 stages. We’ve got it all going on.

Dream of Mine
Think we can convince PATCO to let us paint a mural on the overpass? It’s their property. The mural could span the entire length of the Market. The section over Irvin Avenue might look like this, with a nod to PATCO to help convince them. The rest would be bold graphics of Jersey Fresh produce.
For the Foodies

Kitchen Kapers Cooking School.
Johanna Outwin runs an educational and delicious chef demonstration series for us at the Market, cooking up something she bought fresh from our own vendors. This week she’s partnered with her “tent neighbor” Buck Wild Bison to produce us a snack she’ll prepare on site and which you are encouraged to stop by and sample.
NEW Feature

Henna Tattoos
VARSHA PATEL brings her own talented hands to the table to create stunning henna tattoo designs on your hands . . . or your ankles, shoulders, what-have-you. Why just buy art when you can BE art? Stop by to watch Varsha at work, or get a one-of-a-kind design for yourself. Happy customers report they last about a week.

Bison Tacos!
Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) has taught her daughters to cook, as she is faithfully teaching us all. This week her daughter Kate offers us a simple slow-cooker way to prepare a Bison brisket into enough filling for a whole platterful of bison tacos! Of course, the bison came from our very own Buck Wild Bison. Beyond that, all you need is some onions and a pile of taco shells. Follow the simple instructions here.
https://yellowroomupstairs.wordpress.com/2017/06/14/bison-brisket-tacos/

Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad.
Please welcome our newest Official Market Blogger, Sarah Licata (Salt Jar), whose very first recipe for our Blast is this gorgeous goat cheese balsamic salad of spinach from Flaim Farms and “melt-in-your-mouth” strawberries from Fruitwood Farms. There’s a little basil, and some salad dressing ingredients, but basically this dish just celebrates the crunchy, creamy, berrylicious fresh local ingredients. Follow the recipe and see the scrumptious photos here.

Garlic Kohlrabi Pickles.
Natalie Winch (Food Empowerment Blog) buys kohlrabi in the spring, and again in the fall, and has recipes for both seasons of this cool-weather delicacy. Roast it in the fall, keep it crisp and piquant in the spring, as in this week’s recipe for kohlrabi pickles. Yes, you can! Once you master the simple techniques, you’ll be pickling everything! Follow the instructions and see what they look like in a jar here.

Wildlife Shadow Boxes from Squirrel Tacos.
Casey Lynch says very little about her art except that it’s “Hand cut paper works, silhouettes, scenes in frames, loose prints, and greeting cards.” That doesn’t begin to describe how beautiful and meticulously crafted her work is. Regarding her wildlife shadow boxes, she says, “This collection celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service here in the states. Each papercut is hand drawn and cut before being installed in a shadow box. The background photo of each critter is a photo from my collection of vintage National Parks books.”

Do We Dare to Wish for 2 in a Row?
Thunderstorms are still forecast for SOMETIME Saturday, but they’re “scattered,” and who’s to say they’ll happen in the morning?

Official Forecast SAT JUN 17
Pretty iffy, even for an eternal optimist like me. There’s no wind in the forecast, but I wouldn’t come without a tent just in case those thunderstorms scatter in our direction.

Site Plan for SAT JUN 17
Just one space to spare this week. We’ve added Devil’s Creek Brewery for the week, and one new vendor, Flour+Oats Small Batch Cookies. Plus this is the first week of the very short season for Brookeberry Farms Organic Berries. Lourdes Wellness is here with the Oaklyn Pantry, and two nonprofits will supplement our usual roster of outstanding Legacy and Guest vendors. Rick Hymer surprised me by taking the week off. He’ll be back next week with vegetables.

ATM Machine at the Market
Under its own tent at the center entrance to the Market, this new ATM machine made it possible for more than 60 customers to access additional cash the very first week of operation. I hope you’ll see a corresponding increase in business as we make it easier for shoppers to shop. For cards issued by our sponsor Parke Bank, transactions are free of fees.

NEW Vendor SAT JUN 17

Flour+Oats Small Batch Cookies. We wouldn’t bring you just any old cookies. She’s only scheduled to make four appearances at the Market this season, so make a commitment to check out Lisa A. Russell’s individually wrapped small-batch cookies. The shortbread varieties are our favorites.
BID Vendors SAT JUN 17

Bison Chipsteak Poutine. Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) was an early adopter of the bison offerings from Buck Wild Bison. Here she produces a dish popular in Canada pairing bison chip steak with thick cut French fried potatoes and mushrooms from Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms and cheese curds from Hillacres Pride. Delicious and filling, and ready in just a few minutes unless you’re making your own fries. Follow the simple instructions here.

Spring Pea and White Bean Dip. Christine Clarke (The Coveted Kitchen) took a beautiful photo of her pea-and-bean dip, but she also gave us this perfect shot of her “haul” from the Market last week, including those glorious peas. Kombucha from Inspired Brews, English Peas (Formisano Farm), Spring Mix (Savoie Farm), Green Beans (Springdale Farm), Zucchini (Les Viereck Farm), Kirby Cucumbers (A T Buzby Farm) Follow the instructions and see that gorgeous photo of the dip here.

Squash Pie. Stef Perna (treatbelly) makes an oxymoronic “crustless pie that makes its own crust” while baking. Crazy, right? She’ll teach you how. Start with zucchini from Flaim, Fruitwood, Springdale, or other produce farmers at the Market, add some cheddar or other white cheese, onion, a bit of flour, some egg, and milk, and follow Stef’s simple instructions to create a deep quiche-like pie served hot or cold. Follow the recipe and see the scrumptious photos here.

Music SAT JUN 17

WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. Marc Sengin is very much a solo act, but with his new harmonizer he’ll sound like a trio. You’ll think you’re listening to Peter, Paul, and Mary (or a dozen other acts from the 60s and 70s). Bring a tambourine and play along.

EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. There’s no telling whether Kevin Monko will appear solo (unlikely), or whether he’ll invite one or more of the members of Candy Volcano to play along. Either way, it’ll be a treat.

Collingswood SAT JUN 10, 2017
If Wishing Makes It So . . .
Sure, the forecast could be wrong, but I get the feeling we’re going to have a good one this week. Bring extra.

Official Forecast SAT JUN 10
If Partly Cloudy means what I think it does—Mostly Sunny!—then we’ll do fine, with temps rising all the way from the low 60s to the low 80s during Market hours, lowering humidity, light breezes. Sounds like Market Weather to me!

Site Plan for SAT JUN 10
Just one space to spare this week. We’ve added Our Souls Shine Applesauce for the week, and we have an Activity Space, a Sponsor Space, a Soap seller, and two nonprofits to supplement our usual roster of outstanding Legacy and Guest vendors.

NEW Vendor SAT JUN 10
Our Souls Shine. Cindy Irvin of Audubon is a holistic health coach . . . AND! She grows her own kale and blends it with cinnamon and organic apples to make her own applesauce called Our Souls Shine. AND! She’s a ray of healing sunshine. AND! She’s the author of Yoga and Mindfulness for Children. You could probably see the book if you drop by her table this week. You’ll certainly be able to sample the sauce, which is available at local Whole Foods and MOM’s Organic Markets. http://www.oursoulsshine.com/

BID Vendors SAT JUN 10
Dulce Artisanal Pastries, Blue Moon Olive Oils and Vinegars, Villa Barone, Charlie’s Crepes, and Sara’s Produce will round out the roster at the BID section. (Cheese, Etc. is off this week but will return on SAT JUN 17.)

Guest Vendors SAT JUN 10
- Buck Wild Bison (Extended run because we can’t get enough)
- Garden State Juice Company
(Squeezed from our own vendors’ produce) - Blue Moon Olive Oils & Vinegars
(Sample from the stainless steel fustis!) - Our Souls Shine Applesauce
(Organic and local produce sauces) - John & Kira’s Chocolates
(Real mint. Real fruit. Real flavors.) - Preservation Handcrafted Foods
(Mostly pickles, but consider the Jersey Devil Hot Sauce) - Blueberry Fields Artisan Soaps
- Amber Grain Bakery
(Come early. They sold out on their debut appearance last week.)

Sugar Snap Peas in a Snap. Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) picked up the first sugar snap peas of the season from Les Viereck’s table and a bundle of scallions from Our Yards Farm, and wasted no time getting them into a saute pan with a little butter, the scallions, and some crimini mushrooms. When the ingredients are fresh, simple is best, and this dish will deliver maximum enjoyment of a wonderful spring treat with a minimum of effort. Follow the simple instructions here.

Roasted Asparagus Balsamic. Donna Hutchinson (MyTastyJourney) starts her asparagus and pasta recipe with fresh spears from Viereck Farms. What distinguishes it from other pasta tosses is the sauce of boiled down balsamic vinaigrette blended with butter and brown sugar. Fast and simple, but not mundane. Follow the recipe and see lovely photos of Donna’s daughter in face-paint here.

Garlic Scape Pesto. Stef Perna (treatbelly) bought garlic scapes from Savoie Organic Farm. They’re the delicate, firm, green stems of the garlic plant available only briefly in spring. The recipe here uses them raw in a pesto with pistachio and parmesan. It’s simple, uses raw ingredients, requires no cooking, just a processor. It you don’t use them already, it will make you want to scout and try some scapes. Follow the instructions here.

Music SAT JUN 10
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. If it has strings, Dave Kelly can make it sing. Last year, he added the lap steel guitar to his repertoire of instrumentation. Come hear/see this intriguing instrument and so much more from our own Irish cowboy.

WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. Their family calls them Matthew & Genevieve LaPalomento, but you’ll call them The New Valentines. This is their debut appearance at the Market, so make them feel welcome, please. As their name would suggest, expect good vibes and romance.

Perkins “Seconds” Sale SAT JUN 10
GREAT VALUES ON HANDMADE POTTERY. Many of our vendors look forward to this annual event with great anticipation, hurrying down to the Perkins end of the Market to poach good buys before the sale officially begins. Just saying.

Collingswood SAT JUN 03, 2017
That Weather You Ordered.
How does Mostly Sunny, Temps in the 60s sound? It sounds good to me too.
I hope we get it. I’m weary of being wrong (or misled) about the weather forecast.

Actual Forecast SAT JUN 03
PARTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF SHOWERS. MOSTLY/PARTLY/MOSTLY CLOUDY. SUNNY. Temps rise from the 50s to about 70, and the wind picks up as the morning goes on. A little bit of everything.

Site Plan for SAT JUN 03
We’ve already posted this to Facebook . Here’s your chance to see it too! 🙂

ATM Machine at the Market
We launched this machine during Mayfair. It will be positioned under its own tent at the center entrance to the Market starting SAT JUN 03. For cards issued by our sponsor Parke Bank, transactions will be free.

NEW Vendors
Amber Grain Bakery. Stephen and Franziska (Franzi) Kramer, whose Haddon Avenue bakery will open this week, will be bring their “back to basics” breads to the Market for the first time this Saturday. What exactly they’ll bring for their debut appearance is uncertain, but certainly there will be bread offerings typical of those found at a German bakery. Their leinsamenbrot, a flaxseed rye, and bauernbrot, a farmer’s bread with characteristic seasoning, (both pictured here) are both naturally leavened, as are the whole wheat and Collingswood sourdough loaves.

BID Vendors
Dulce Artisanal Pastries, Blue Moon Olive Oils and Vinegars, Villa Barone, Charlie’s Crepes, Cheese Etc, and Sara’s Produce will round out the roster at the BID section.

Johnny Marzetti. Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs) got what she needed to make this “perennial guest” dish at the Collingswood Farmers’ Market. It’s welcome anywhere you’ve been invited, and people are always happy to see Johnny Marzetti walk through the door. Pick up butter, ground beef, and shredded cheddar at Hillacres Pride. Crimini mushrooms from Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, onions from Formisano Farms, canned Jersey tomatoes from Flaim Farms, and pasta from Villa Barone! Assemble with advice from here.

Asparagus Bruschetta. Denine Gorniak (thebicycle-chef) predicts Asparagus Toast will be the next big foodie thing. “This is a totally South Jersey fresh meal with ingredients purchased from the Collingswood Farmers’ Market,” she says. Asparagus from Viereck Farms; hot house Jersey grown tomato from Springdale Farms; fresh bread from Wild Flour Bakery; home-made ricotta cheese from Hillacres Pride; basil from my garden; Eureka Lemon-infused olive oil from our very own olive oil and balsamic vinegar store, Blue Moon. It doesn’t get any better or more local than this. Assemble it with help here.

Strawberry Rhubarb Galettes. Stef Perna (treatbelly) has noticed that “strawberries and asparagus continue to be the stars of the Collingswood Farmers’ Market.” So, she decided to do something delicious about it! She insists “The dough comes together cohesively and is an easy-to-follow recipe. Flaky pie dough uses pea-sized butter pieces, and the galette dough introduces a rolling pin to create flat thin butter pieces. It’s pretty impressive.” If you need help with pastry, get it from Stef here.

National Picnic. Betsy Cook, known to most of us as the recent former Director of the Collingswood Farmers’ Market, founded National Picnic (women’s casual clothing) in 2011. Her clothing is sewn locally right in Collingswood. Betsy seeks out sustainable attributes such as organic fabrics, textiles that are milled nearby, and industry surplus when creating her few-of-a-kind pieces. She’ll have “the goods” and a handy step-in dressing room for customers to try on garments.

Music SAT JUN 03
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. With wit, craft, talent, pure musicianship, and deep affection for songs they just don’t write any more, She Hates Me will beguile and delight us this week. Snappy dressers, too.

WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. Guitarist, hippie, and jive turkey Barry Hollander will perform for the first time at the west stage this week. (First time at the Market, that is; he’s been performing for years.)

Dog Tent SAT JUN 03
THE ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER will staff the Dog Tent, advise shoppers about the Market Animal Guidelines, and dispense Official Market leashes. They’ll also accept donations, take applications for adoptions, and perhaps bring along some adoptables.

DON’T BULLY US RESCUE. Meanwhile, at the east end of the Market, Don’t Bully Us will be on site with bull terrier puppies and adult dogs. You’ll have a chance to meet (and perhaps adopt), among others, the four dogs pictured here: Bean, Tigger, Kitkat, and Pogo. Can you match the names to their lovable faces?

Collingswood SAT MAY 27, 2017
MAYFAIR!
Week 4 of our 2017 Season is the very different Mayfair Saturday.
As we do just once every year, we’re relocating to Irvin Avenue this week to accommodate Mayfair, the annual town-wide block party that attracts maybe 50,000 participants to Haddon Avenue. For experienced vendors, this is no surprise; for newcomers, the dislocation will be startling.
Vehicles are Prohibited
Vehicles cannot be driven into or parked on Irvin Avenue, which is narrower than our usual spaces. Instead, you’ll be parking in the lot behind the Kitchen Associates building and unloading by foot onto Irvin Avenue.
Do Not Drive Onto Irvin Avenue
A few vendors have made appointments with David to arrive at particular times for very brief vehicle access. Unless you have a scheduled time to use your vehicle, park in the Kitchen Associates lot and walk your setup.
Site Plan and Pavement Chalk
- The Irvin Avenue Site Plan is attached.
- In addition, David will be chalking the pavement squares with your initials to confirm which spaces you’ve been assigned.
Guest Vendors
We had limited room for Guest Vendors this week, but are happy to note the several participants in the site plan above. Garden State Juice, Neil’s Knife Sharpening, and Inspired Brews Kombucha will join our full-season vendors as Guests this week.
BID Vendors
Only Villa Barone and Sara’s Produce will join us, both near the intersection of Haddon Avenue, just inside DanLynn Organic and King Kernel corn.
Guest Artist
We are including one Featured Artist among our guests. Return vendors will recognize the colorful Doctor-Seuss-like birdhouses of Deppenwood. They’re very popular Mayfair items and we’re happy to have them in our midst.

No Veggie Valet / No Volunteers / No Music / No Dog Tent
There will be no Veggie Valet, no Friends of the Farmers’ Market, no Live Music, no Dog Tent, and no dedicated Nonprofits spaces this week. All will return SAT JUN 03.
Flexible Site Plan
This week especially I will need vendors to be flexible and understanding as you set up your spaces. I will be on the site from 5am until 8am to facilitate the load-in, after which I will depart to visit the Brigantine Farmers’ Market. (It’s the only Saturday I am free to see this Market, and I’ve never been there.) Remain calm and sell a lot of stuff.

Location for New Participants
The Market is not a permanent structure with a street address. It’s a section of pavement between Haddon Avenue and the High-Speed PATCO train to Philadelphia known as the Speedline. It sets up Saturday mornings from the first of May until the Saturday before Thanksgiving, from 8am until noon, and by 2pm the only way to identify the location is by the sponsor banners flying from the utility poles.
Using Google Maps?
For mapping purposes, use 713 North Atlantic Avenue, Collingswood as an address. That’s actually the Collingswood Police Station, but it’s the closest named building.
LINK TO GOOGLE MAPS

The market is located in Collingswood’s flourishing downtown business district, situated only 10 minutes from Center City Philadelphia by car and by PATCO Hi-Speedline.
The Towers. Once you get close, the Market can be found easily by looking up—for 2 water towers. The Market occupies the parking lot near the base of the two blue water towers in the center of town.
They’ve just been repainted. So, in case the Collingswood Logo isn’t in place yet, look for something like the photos on the right.
Near Directions
- If you enter town on Haddon Avenue, turn right onto Collings Avenue at the traffic light in the middle of town, then left into the entrance to the Community Center just before you reach the Speedline.
- If you enter town on Collings Avenue, make a right turn into the entrance to the Community Center, just after coming under the Speedline.
- If you enter town on PATCO, exit the turnstiles and head left, which is west, in the direction of Philadelphia. Walk along the PATCO tracks for about a block and a half and you will see the Market.
From the Ben Franklin Bridge
You will take Admiral Wilson Blvd. (30/676) to 30/130 south (the PUB is a landmark at the ramp)
Go thru the light at the Cooper River Golf driving range, past cemetery, and keep an eye to your right for a Dunkin Donuts.
Make the right at the Dunkin Donuts corner onto Haddon Ave, BUT keep right to jughandle around UNDER 130 and up onto Haddon Ave into Collingswood. (There is a sign “Welcome to Collingswood”)
Drive through first light (Browning Rd. intersection). At second light (Collings Avenue), turn right. You’re practically there.
Turn right onto Collings Avenue and turn left into the Community Center (past the fire hall). Stay to the right and follow the traffic or park immediately.
Look up. You’ll see two blue water towers. The Market is in the same lot.
This should be about 7 minutes drive from Ben Franklin in Saturday morning traffic.
Parking
- PATCO Collingswood Station parking along Atlantic Ave. extends right up to the Irvin Avenue entrance of the Market and is ample and free.
- Free street parking along the Market section of Atlantic Avenue and neighboring streets.
- Free parking in lots just north of the Market both west and east of the Police station.
- Kiosk and meter parking along Haddon Avenue.
- Kiosk parking in the Lumberyard Garage on Collings Avenue across from the Community Center.
