Collingswood SAT SEP 30
Mostly Sunny (and Autumnal)
Pessimists call it party cloudy. Cool seasonal temperatures and no chance of rain.
Gonna get breezy by noon. Strap on the tent weights and let’s sell some Jersey Fresh!
Official forecast for SAT SEP 30
Site Plan for SAT SEP 30
We have a little air in the plan this week following the departure of A.T. Buzby for the season. But we’re still full of lively attractions. The Knife Sharpener is here, along with the Goat Petting Area. Two uncommon musical attractions in The Unstoppable Hackbeats at the East end and guitarist, hippie, and jive turkey Barry Hollander to the West. Crab soup, Glass art, so much more!
BID Vendors SAT SEP 30
BID Vendors. At the west end of the Market, members of the Collingswood Business Improvement District (BID) may sell food products not necessarily locally-sourced.
Shoppers may not know that the special arrangement with Sara’s Produce is that they may sell “exotic” produce, but are prohibited from selling anything that grows in New Jersey.

ALMOND CROISSANT FROM DULCE ARTISAN PASTRIES
We’re fully stocked with BID vendors this week: Dulce Artisanal Pastry, Villa Barone, Cheese Etc, Charlie’s Crepes, and Sara’s Produce will take their usual spaces. And they’ll be joined by Inspired Brews Kombucha in what is becoming their usual space as well.

SAT SEP 30
- MECHA Artisan Chocolates
—The rest of the week you can find MECHA Artisan chocolates at the new Occasionette shop in town, but on Saturdays, come on out to the Market for your chocoholic fix. - Duker T’s Catering
—Devoted shoppers wait all year for Robert Barber to bring out his justly famous Cream of Crab soup. Come by for a hot one (or take a few home). - Green Aisle Grocery
— Local produce gets hip here. From their tiny storefront on East Passyunk, the Erace brothers bring us fancy bitters, exotic spices, house-made pickles, preserves, nut butters and teas (and always a few surprises). - Neil’s Sharpening Service
—If you’ve been paying attention, you know Neil comes by with his grinding tools and his razor-sharp wit on the final Saturday of the month. Bring out your knives and other dull blades this SAT SEP 30. - Mike Wilk Lamb Farm
—Not technically a Guest Vendor, but “the lamb guy” is now on an every-other-week schedule. Look for him this SAT SEP 30. - Cindy Steves, Soap Girl
—Cindy has it all. Homemade natural soaps, shower gels, organic pet shampoo, bath salts, shaving soap—like we said, all! - Knowhere Farm Goats Milk Soap
—Selfie Alert! Also justly prized for the soap they make from their very own goats, the Knowhere table is better known for the adorable goats they bring to Market. Buy a bar and take your picture with the kids. - Inspired Brews Kombucha
—Always fresh, with fun flavors on tap! Sip a sample, buy a bottle, or bring a growler for a refill.

Microgreens Five Ways

MICROGREENS ON TURKEY BURGER
Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). Micro Greens. Susan and her daughters have sampled all four varieties of micro greens from Patrick Gigliotti and Louis Monte who call themselves Indogrow. These “vertical farmers,” who work indoors in their Cherry Hill NJ home, offer four microgreen blends ready to enjoy. The Lynchs used the Italian mix, the Robust, the Fusion Mix, and the Zesty on sandwiches and burgers, in salads, with grits, and in scrambled eggs. See photos of these crisp and extremely flavorful little blasts of nutrition in all their versatile glory at Susan’s blog.

ADORABLE ADOPTABLE ABIGAIL
New Life Animal Rescue in the Dog Tent.
The wonderful people of New Life Animal Rescue will be staffing the Dog Tent for us this week, sharing their remarkable stories of rescuing truly needy animals from the brink of disaster at extreme expense. They’ll also offer pet care tips, hook you up with an application to adopt an adorable animal, and dispense the official Market leashes that have made our Market a safer and more welcoming place for all our guests, four-legged and otherwise.

WEST STAGE UNDER PATCO. You know how sometimes a genuinely nice guy is also blessed with talent and makes everybody feel wonderful? John Rossi is one of those guys, but he’s not available this week, so we invited self-proclaimed hippie, guitarist and jive turkey BARRY HOLLANDER to come out and grind his ax. He’s a unique and uniquely talented artist, and we’re very lucky he wants to play our venue. See for yourself!
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. We missed a chance to host these guys earlier in the season, so head on out to hear THE UNSTOPPABLE HACKBEATS in their only Market appearance this year. Matt Skoufalos, known to all as the journalist behind NJ Pen, has assembled a tight band of irregular regulars to churn out the ska. Shop for produce from 8am until 9, then settle into a chair at the music seating area for three hours of fun from 9am-noon.
Seasons Change, Vendors Change
Last Chance this season for Eckert’s Corn
Last Chance for Sweet Freedom Gluten-Free Bakery
SEASONAL CHANGES START NOW. Every year toward the end of September, crops cycle out and crops cycle in. As the corn and tomatoes fade, we’ll see more squash and late season greens, local broccoli and cauliflower, among other wonders of the autumn. This week we bid farewell (until next year) to our legacy vendors Eckerts Farm (the corn truck), and Sweet Freedom (Gluten-Free) Bakery. Stop by and say farewell until MAY 2018.
Small Bills and a Bathroom Key
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day. For guest vendors who might not be aware, I also have a key to Perkins Art Center, a Market sponsor, the primary benefit of which, for our vendors is INDOOR PLUMBING!
VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.
Flexible Site Plan
Changes will continue to occur throughout the season as vendors come and go and as we learn more about how neighbors interact. I remind you no spaces are ever guaranteed and require your cooperation if I have to move your location any given week.

Smoked Pulled Pork Butt
Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). Smoked Pulled Pork. Susan and her family are clearly practiced carnivores. This week she selected and her husband slow-smoked a pastured and grass-fed Boneless Boston Butt from Hillacres Pride on their backyard smoking grill with hickory chips. Whether that works for you, or if you prefer variations for your conventional indoor oven or slow cooker, Susan offers recipes and cooking instructions for all three methods. Check out the recipe and other helpful photos at Susan’s blog.

Stef Perna (treatbelly)
Acorn Squash Mac & Cheese.
Stef Perna is on an acorn squash kick this month! She says, “Collingswood Farmers’ Market vendor, Savoie Organic Farm grows the sweetest tasting acorn squash. The natural sweetness inspired me to substitute homemade acorn squash puree for ‘canned pumpkin’ in cheesy pumpkin pasta recipe” featuring toasted hazelnuts. Then, for good measure, she used the same puree to make pumpkin muffins. See photos and recipes for both at Stef’s blog.

Annual Appreciation Luncheon
at Villa Barone
IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MARKET, SAT SEP 23.
You’ve worked hard all year to bring the best, freshest, most delicious foods to the Market. Now it’s time to let somebody else feed you. Please join your Market friends (and the ones at “the other end of the Market” you’ve never met) at Villa Barone as soon as you break down your tables. We’ll be serving Caesar Salads, Chicken San Angelo, Penne Primavera, and Chicken Parmesan. You can tip your server if you wish, but basically the meal is on the Market. Villa Barone is BYOB, so by all means BYOB!
Get your FREE ticket from David during the Market, SAT SEP 23.
Food bloggers, FOFM volunteers, Guest vendors, and table crews are all welcome, whether you’re booked for SEP 23 or not.

Rose Pacey
Gypsy Art
FEATURED ARTIST. Gypsy Art by Rose Pacey. You may wonder what paintings, windchimes, cheese trays, jewelry, and “beaded things” have in common. Ordinarily, we’d say “Nothing,” but Rose Pacey makes them all with her unique gypsy art flair. Come see her this Saturday, just after (and just before) her two appearances this month at the Whole Foods small business Hatchery. See how a Grey Goose bottle can be made into a cheese tray. Yep. That’s what he said.

We have a couple of spaces to spare because of the unexpected absence this week of Sikking Flowers. We may get late additions (Extraordinary Ed or Preservation), but for now, the spaces are open and marked as Market Space. Otherwise, all spaces are accounted for. The Dog Tent will be staffed; we have a Featured Artist, and several Guest Vendors will join the roster this week, including a brand new vendor, Indogrow, a very small vertical farm that grows only the tiniest and most flavorful of microgreens.

CHARLEY’S CREPES. This week, Charley features fresh produce from many vendors. “We’ll have an Eckert corn hash, Davidson sherry shallot mushrooms, Viereck roasted tomatoes and spinach, and Schober peaches and apples. New Vendor: Indogrow Microgreens
MICROGREENS! Patrick Gigliotti and Louis Monte grow microgreens in a very small vertical farm (see below) in Cherry Hill. Their delicate-looking products pack an amazing flavor punch into the smallest of packages (and about a pound’s worth of nutrition for every ounce). The tiniest samples are instantly recognizable as “spicy brown mustard,” or “fresh spring pea,” or “red beets,” to name just three examples. They’re new; they’re creating a buzz with bloggers; they’re featured in local restaurants, and they’re terrifically nice guys. Stop by and meet them at “the Perkins end of the Market.”

This week Stef found treats from Savoie Organic, DanLynn Organic, Schobers & Sons, Fruitwood, Flaim, Viereck, and Springdale and shot gorgeous photos of them all. Hi, I’m Sadie. I’m a very sweet, affectionate girl looking for my forever family. I like to run around a bit, so a fenced yard would be nice. WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. The New Valentines. They delighted us in June when they made their Market debut, and Matt and Genevieve LaPalomento are certain to delight us again with their beautiful harmonies and popular playlist. ‘Cause, once you’re delightful, you don’t stop being delightful.

Kohlrabi Delicata Hash Browns

KOHLRABI DELICATA HASH BROWNS
Susan has a knack for familiarizing the unfamiliar. This week she chose two items you might be hesitant to try and transforms them into a beautiful dish you’ll find completely comforting if still a bit new. With a fresh kohlrabi from Our Yards Farm and a gorgeous striped delicata from Flaim Farms, fried them in sequence with a fresh green onion, and created Hash Browns that will remind you of the potato version but contain nary a spud. Thank you, Susan. (The kohlrabi thanks you too.) See the simple instuctions at Susan’s blog.

Lox and Bagel Dinner?

CRISPY SALMON TOMATO AND CAPERS
Not exactly the popular delicatessen favorite, but you can see how an entrée that features salmon, onion, tomato and capers might have taken its inspiration from a bagel breakfast. Springdale Farms provided Sarah her hyper-local, super-fresh grape tomatoes. The yellow style add a fun punch, and a warm sweetness not found in the red type, making this dish a true celebration of the local produce. Serve over pasta with crispy-skin salmon (or toss the pasta with lox if you’re following the analogy!) Easy instructions are at Sarah’s blog.

They provide group psychological and PTSD counseling. They partner with universities to provide quality education. They provide job search assistance including resume building and basic computer skills training. But, about that car? You could win it with one $20 ticket. Drawing November 11. Collingswood SAT SEP 09
Rainman Returns.
We got our picture-perfect day last week while Dave was on vacation. Now that he’s back, the forecast is more than a little iffy for SAT SEP 02.
Official forecast for SAT SEP 02
The forecast is for chilly and wet.
Site Plan for SAT SEP 02
We’re back to our usual procedures this week. Thank you for your patience during last week’s vacation break for yours truly. We have some notable absences this week as Charlie’s Crepes and Cheese Etc take their vacations, and Garden State Juice is done for the season. Several guest vendors will return next week, but for this Saturday, we have enough room to invite some new puppies from Don’t Bully Us Rescue at the BID end of the Market.
BID Vendors SAT SEP 02
BID Vendors. At the west end of the Market, members of the Collingswood Business Improvement District (BID) may sell food products not necessarily locally-sourced.
Shoppers may not know that the special arrangement with Sara’s Produce is that they may sell “exotic” produce, but are prohibited from selling anything that grows in New Jersey.

DEFINITELY NOT JERSEY FRESH — BID VENDOR SARA’S PRODUCE
This week the roster is very light in the BID area: Dulce Artisanal Pastry, Villa Barone, and Sara’s Produce will take their usual spaces. (Cheese Etc and Charlie’s Crepes are off on their summer vacations.) For one week, Don’t Bully Us Rescue will conduct a special adoption event with some of their adorable adoptables.

Sarah Licata (Salt Jar)
Schober Peaches Galette
Sarah Licata (Salt Jar). Sarah suggests we think of a galette as a half-pie, free-form, baked without a pan, almost structureless, and EASIER than pie to make. No kidding. The hardest part is cutting the peaches. The rest you can do without interrupting your trashy TV viewing. The peaches come from Schober Sons Orchards, and Sarah personally “taste tests” each one before committing it to the galette. Rosemary adds the unexpected savory element. Read the simple instructions at Sarah’s blog, Salt Jar.

Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs)
Salad in a Jar!
Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). We all know Susan likes to shop from EVERYONE at the Market. This week she outdid herself and stacked the results in jars that can be taken to work for lunch without going soft or losing their freshness. She stacks cucumbers, tomatoes, cheese, and peppers and recommends Our Yards, Savoie, Flaim, Formisano, Springdale, Hymer, Danlynn, Viereck, Fruitwood, Buzby for selected produce! The cheese she picks up from Hillacres Pride, Springdale, or Villa Barone. Well done, Susan. See the construction advice at her blog.

Featured Artist SAT SEP 02
Jamilah Damiani
Wrenaissance Furniture Revival
FEATURED ARTIST. Her appearance at the Market this Saturday will mark Jamilah Damiani’s debut as a Featured Artist. Her company produces Home Decor with a particular style (several particular styles, actually). Look for pop art, genuine African fabric pillows, wall art, and “Revived” furniture.
For the Animal Lovers
The New Life Animal Rescue
New Life Animal Rescue in the Dog Tent. Maybe Shelby is your type of dog. (More importantly, maybe you’re her type of adopter!) This week our good friends from New Life will staff the Dog Tent and distribute Official Market Leashes along with the Dog Behavior Guidelines, excellent advice about pet health and safety, and opportunities to volunteer or to apply to foster/adopt a new forever animal of your own. Stop by to pet or be petted. Or get started on the adoption process to add Shelby to your family

Music SAT SEP 02
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. Marc Sengin is very much a solo act, but with his new harmonizer he sounds like a trio. You’ll think you’re listening to Peter, Paul, and Mary (or Crosby, Stills, and Nash). Bring a tambourine and play along.
WEST STAGE BELOW PATCO. The Incomparable Dave Kelly makes stringed things sing this week at the BID vendor/Corn Truck end of the Market. Dave plays old favorites and always something new, from Nirvana to the Mister Softee theme.
