Handmade Holidays Setup Instructions
Welcome Artists and Crafters. We’re delighted to host you for the 2013 Handmade Holidays event at the Collingswood Farmers’ Market.
Whether you’re a Market veteran or a Market rookie, these instructions will help insure a smooth arrival and setup during what can be a hectic hour. You’ll be moving into a Market that is already well established, joining dozens of vendors with their own customary locations, setup procedures, and traffic patterns. Take it easy, stay aware, and remember you are a guest.
Study your location
- On this blog you will find the site plans for all four November Saturdays.
- The “Recent Posts” category to the left of this post has links to all four.
- Study the plans for all the Saturdays you’ve scheduled.
- You may not be in the same place every week.
- Every space at the Market is full for the entire month.
- Not every vendor is coming every week so moves are inevitable.
- We’ve done our best to avoid bouncing you around.
- Some of you will experience more than one location.
- The first farm vendors arrive at 6am. You are welcome to arrive with them.
- Arrive no later than 7am. You need to be ready to sell at 8am.
- David will be on site wearing red and a Market cap and carrying a clipboard.
- See David first.
- DO NOT proceed directly to your space and put up a tent.
Have the latest plan with you
- This blog is easy to bring on your smartphone.
- The site plan is subject to change.
- The latest version is always live at the blog.
- If you bring a printed copy of your plan, be sure it’s current.
- Don’t be late, but call ahead if you’re going to be late.

- When I answer, I will be busy with someone who’s on time.
- Remain patient.
Drive the right direction
- Traffic is ONE WAY, west to east.
- The top of the site plan is the entrance.
- Spaces 50-89 may drive into the Market with care.
- Spaces 1-49 do not drive into the Market.
- Spaces 1-49 load from the “back” of their spaces.
- Market space numbers are marked with chalk on the pavement.
- Market spaces are parking space dimensions, 10 feet wide by 16 feet deep.
- Lines are drawn diagonally, but your spaces are square.
- The Market provides space only.
- Bring your own tables and tents.
- November can be windy; tents require weights for safety.
- Plan your displays so that your products don’t fall or blow away.
Unload quickly
- The “drive” down the middle gets very congested.
- At most, you have 15 minutes to unload.
- Stay to the side to permit others to pass.
- Park your vehicle outside the Market when you have unloaded.
- Don’t even think about parking your vehicle in your space.
- Be smart; Park far.
- If you take a prime parking spot for four hours, customers can’t use it.
Be a good neighbor
- The Market is a wonderful community of vendors who cooperate.
- You will be most welcome if you are considerate.
- Put the needs of others first and we will all succeed.

On this, our final week of the 2013 Market season, SAT NOV 23, we’ll wrap up both our produce sales and this year’s edition of the Handmade Holidays art and craft bazaar. Most of this week’s new vendors are back for repeat visits, but four will be making their very first appearance, so there may be just a bit of messiness at move-in and setup.

Continuing this week, SAT NOV 16, we’ll experience a “gentle takeover” as more than two dozen artists and crafters descend on the Market to fill the spaces vacated by departing vendors. By this third week, all our artists have Market experience, so move-in and setup should be smooth.

HANDMADE HOLIDAYS NOV 09
For the second week this season, SAT NOV 09, we’ll experience a “gentle takeover” as more than two dozen artists and crafters descend on the Market to fill the spaces vacated by departing vendors. Most are Market veterans, but five vendors this week are Market rookies, and as such they’ll be unfamiliar with Market procedures and protocols.
There may be some unavoidable messiness at startup, but we’re doing all we can to assure that the new arrivals know what to do, and where, and when. Please remain patient; the crafters are a draw for shoppers and help us stretch our food-selling season well beyond the date other Markets close.

John Rossi will sing and play at the east Music Tent and the FOFM Volunteer Tent will be staffed for the last time this week!
Get your facilities key, drop off your lost items here, and express your thanks for another season of generosity from our wonderful volunteers.
MARKET CERTIFICATES
The pie contests have put hundreds of dollars of Market Gift Certificates into circulation. SAT NOV 02 and SAT NOV 09 will be your last chance to redeem your Market certificates before the end of the season.

Saturday is the final Market day for several vendors. It’s been a wonderful spring/summer/fall, and we appreciate you all. Farewell this week to Treehouse Cafe, Hurley’s Landscaping, Sikking Flowers, Dolinski and Sons, and Les Viereck. Thank you, and see you next spring!
CHILLY BUT SUNNY
Setup temperatures will be in the 40s, and the high for the day will be in the upper 50s, but sunny and lovely. Wear an extra layer and enjoy the crispness. Grab an apple.
VOLUNTEERS AND MUSIC
She Hates Me will rock the east Music Tent and the FOFM Volunteer Tent will be fully staffed again this week! Redeem your Market certificates, get your facilities key, drop off your lost items here, and express your thanks for another season of generosity from our wonderful volunteers.
PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST
We’re trying something new this season, inviting kids and adults to carve pumpkins on the premises for fun and prizes. We’ll set up at the east end, in the guest vendor area near the FOFM Volunteer tent.
FEATURED ARTIST MEG KARETNY PAPER CRAFTS
Megan is a paper artist. She’ll be selling paper crafts, special occasion cards, twine wreaths & jewelry. See her in Space 14.

GOODBYE SUMMER
Saturday’s weather will be chilly in the morning, warming to less than 70 most likely, but with only a slight chance of rain. So . . . expect October weather.
Guest vendors, Live Alpacas.
Our guest vendor area is packed this week. Live alpacas from Windy Farm, plus a full complement of delectables. .
LIVE MUSIC BUT NO VOLUNTEER TENT
With the pie contest, we’re a little busy at the east end for the volunteers this week, but we will set up and use both tents, one for the PIES, one for DAVE KELLY.
APPLE PIE BAKING CONTEST
Betsy Cook makes a Special Guest appearance this week to host the popular annual pie contest. We’ll set up at the east end, in the regular location of the FOFM Volunteer tent.
CORN TRUCK IS DONE FOR THE SEASON
We’ll have open space at the west end now that the corn truck’s season is done. Beginning November 02, that space will be available for artists and crafters.
FEATURED ARTIST MUD AND FIRE
Eric Wolff and Siobhan Keefe bring their exquisite ceramics (functional and decorative) to the Market this week. They’re November regulars we get to see early this year.
ZOMBIE INVASION
Garfield School does its annual Zombie Run next week. They’ll be stumbling bloodily through the Market this week enlisting support and “runners.”

Hello, Collingswood Marketeers!
NO FESTIVAL SATURDAY!
There’s no special event scheduled for Haddon Avenue this Saturday. It is Second Saturday, which is always celebrated in town, but those activities don’t begin until after dinner.
Guest vendors are back on Irvin Avenue. John and Kira’s Chocolates, Green Aisle Grocery, and Dee Dee’s Kitchen Pesto will all be positioned at the Music Tent end of the Market as usual.
VOLUNTEER TENT YES. MUSIC YES, TWICE.
The FOFM tent and our wonderful volunteers are back where they belong too. Sam Caruso will spellbind his audience a the East Stage. Meanwhile, John Rossi will be doing his guitar magic at the West Stage.
CORN TRUCK IS BACK
The Eckert corn truck will take its usual spot at the west end of the Market this week.
FEATURED ARTIST DEVON GUEST
Devon makes jewelry out of natural items such as beans, pits, seeds, bone and stones.

On either side of the Veggie Valet this week, Market Sponsors Liberti Church and Lourdes Health System will set up their tents to reach out to vendors and marketgoers.

This will be our last Site Plan for the 2013 season, Voorhees Marketeers. (And just in time; we’re nearly out of vendors.)
Vendor Notes
- In addition to last week’s departures, we now know Bellview Winery will not be joining us for our final week.
- There’s a spot for Carol Steinhauser of Blueberry Fields who has not confirmed but is welcome to finish out the season with her soaps and specialty products.
- Duncan will set up his Hazlett Organic booth at the Right End this week, with plenty of room to pull his vehicle into the space.
- And Fruitwood Orchards will close out our second season with their terrific range of Jersey Fresh produce for which we’re very grateful.

Hello, Collingswood Marketeers!
SHARING THE TOWN WITH THE BOOK FESTIVAL
In Collingswood, we love our festivals. Once again this Saturday, the Farmers’ Market will make changes to our site plan to accommodate the Borough’s need to use Irvin Avenue to relieve traffic congestion caused by the closing of Haddon Avenue for the Book Fair.
Guest vendors have been moved from Irvin Avenue into the heart of the Market. We kept the guest vendor roster light for this reason. We’re happy to host Market Day Canele and Jalma’s Beach Plum Preserves only.
COLLINGSWOOD BOOK FAIR
For everyone else in town, this big annual event is a chance to stroll the Avenue shopping for books and bookish events. For us, it means we can’t use Haddon Avenue and traffic can be difficult everywhere in Collingswood. Don’t count on using Haddon Avenue any time after 6am. The festival runs Saturday only. We often get good spillover crowds, which makes it easier to accept the traffic troubles, but some vendors report it’s historically been a “slow” day.
MUSIC YES. VOLUNTEER TENT NO.
As we have done before on days like this, we’ll forgo the FOFM tent to make room for vehicles to pass on Irvin Avenue, but the music tent will still function as usual and host the always popular Trio Nova Duo!
Then, at the west end music stage, Dave Kelly will perform an acoustic set, so the music will be live at both ends.
EARLY DEPARTURES (?)
The end of the season has come for A T Buzby. Their early departure has created the room we need to bring the guest vendors “inside” for this week.
The Eckert corn truck will also not be with us this week, but they hope to return SAT OCT 12.
FEATURED ARTIST JENNIFER TALARICO
Jennifer hand knits and hand weaves clothing, accessories and rugs using natural fibers and repurposed fabric. Her designs are classic and her taste and palette are exquisite.
PLEASE SUPPORT THE ANIMAL SHELTERS
We’ve still managed to find space for two nonprofit animal shelters this week. Both the New Jersey Aid for Animals group and the Camden County Animal Shelter will be with us. Bring pet foods, linens, towels and blankets, cleaning supplies, cash, and a big heart.
