Collingswood SAT OCT 20
Cloudy, small chance of showers.
Temps get to the 60s by noon as the breeze picks up into double digits. Cool and seasonal with a small chance of showers early. So . . . October.

The official forecast from Weather.com

Siteplan for SAT OCT 20
Lots of space in the Market this week as we lose farms and haven’t started to replace them with crafters and artists.
Feels like fall. Let’s sell some Jersey Fresh!

Collingswood Foods SAT OCT 20

PIZZA FROM VILLA BARONE
REVELATION CAFÉ! Local food heroes Revolution Roasters and the Constellation Collective have teamed up to form a new food-and-beverage café at the west end of the Market. Pull up a chair in their seating area and enjoy locally-roasted coffee and breakfast treats.
Villa Barone. Fresh breads and recently pizza from this Haddon Avenue Collingswood restaurant’s brick oven, sauces and prepared items from the kitchen, and the very popular zeppoles make this a must-visit table.
Sara’s Produce, by special arrangement, is the one source for produce NOT grown in New Jersey. They are mandated to bring us the “exotics” so our shoppers won’t need to go to the supermarket for an avocado or a lemon.

SAT OCT 20
- Green Aisle Grocery
—In addition to their usual array of pickles and preserved items, nut butters, mixers, and so much more, this week we’ve seen the preparations for fresh ricotta. - Indogrow Farm
—We usually see them every other week with their tender little shoots of incredibly flavorful microgreens. They were absent last week, supplying their new restaurant customers, so look for them back in their usual location this Saturday. - Charlie’s Crepes
—Charlie buys his sweet and savory ingredients (always a meat, always a fruit, always delicious) at the Market and whips up new concoctions every week. - Duker T’s Catering
— When the weather changes, Duker puts on the soup pot and blends in the local produce. Last week’s Cream of Crab sold out so fast he might have to bring it back again this week. Whatever it is, come early. - Woof and Whiskers
—Read the list of ingredients and you’ll understand this is a pet treat you could safely share with your dog (not that we’re saying you should). But if you’re tempted, the chicken and sweet potato biscuit is pretty tasty. - Carnivore Corner
—The meat-lover’s end is at full strength. Roger Byrom is bringing choice cuts of lamb from Headquarters Farm, Woods Edge Wools has been sending frozen yak. We’ve got the bison from Buck Wild Bison, and Nature’s Own Farm checks in with their own pastured pork, chicken, and beef. Look for lamb and alpaca pelt and wool garments too. It’s that time of year! - Barn and Stone House Soap
—Not just bar soap. Not just for cleansing. Stop by this attractive table and get yourself some laundry soap or handmade aromatherapy. - Inspired Brews Kombucha
—Nobody does a better job of patronizing local farms to flavor their fermented tea beverages than Inspired Brews. Bring your growler or ask for a sample pour. - Our Souls Shine
— Cindy and Vera will be back this week and most weeks until Thanksgiving with Cindy’s gourmet applesauce (from Schober Sons apples!), honey-sweetened lemonade and Cindy’s pindjur made from our own vendors’ eggplant and peppers.

PARTIAL VENDOR GALLERY
Tasty Temptations. We highly recommend you click through to the facebook page for Tasty Temptations, our official Market Blogger whose specialty—USUALLY—is to shop several Market vendors and share photos of her Market “finds” for the week, then cook with them and share them again. This week, she’s focusing on several of those very vendors in a lovely series of posts that are invariably sunny and warm (even though shot on less-than-sunny occasions) Follow the link to start your tour. You’ll think it’s Saturday already!

APPLESAUCE LOAF TO SHARE
Susan Mauer Lynch. Applesauce Loaf to Share.
We are so lucky to have two extraordinary orchards providing apple varieties to the Market. Add to that our fortuitous relationship with food blogger Susan Mauer Lynch who cherishes all our vendors, knows just what to do with her Jersey Fresh, and—most important!—loves to share what she knows. Susan bought her apples at Fruitwood Farms and Wm. Schober Sons, used them to make her own applesauce, then turned out this scrumptious cake. Best of all . . . she shares! Follow the link for the recipe.

Denine Gorniak (The Bicycle-chef). We’d probably still hold our pie contests if Denine were unavailable to judge, photograph, and chronicle them, but it wouldn’t be the same. We’d miss her detailed notes on the charms of the individual entries, her mouth-watering photographs of the pies (and their bakers), and her always complimentary commentary on the entries and their entrants. Follow the link to see all the pies in their full-size glory, pictures of the winners receiving their prizes, and Denine’s intrepid reporting on the details of the competition.

SUPER COOL ADOPTABLE PAUL
Animal Welfare Agency of New Jersey (AWANJ)
The wonderful people of AWANJ will be staffing the Dog Tent for us this week, sharing remarkable stories of rescuing truly needy dogs from the brink of disaster at extreme expense. They’ll distribute the essential Official Market leash to your 4-legged companions and introduce you to adoption possibilities. We don’t make promises, but we’re hoping to meet Paul, a 2-and-a-half-year-old pointer mix who, with a bundle of energy, considers himself “the life of the party.” Come and meet the AWANJ team, and perhaps a new member of the family, at the Dog Tent.

SAT OCT 13

Last Chance to Catch two Collingswood Favorites.
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. Matinee Relics. Small accordion, big guitar. Regina Baker and Kevin Sullivan are “two separate people who share one affection for old jazz music, standards, beautifully-written-but-decades-forgotten songs, and Manouche-style swing.” They’re also a heckuva good time . . . AND this is your last chance to catch their act at the Market this season. Don’t miss it.
WEST STAGE UNDER PATCO. Sam Caruso. Pop classics and sing-along favorite pop songs make every appearance by local legend Sam Caruso an event worth catching. You can’t say, “I’ll catch him next time” because next time will be 2019.

FEATURED ARTIST: David Tiefenthaler (Thousand Word Photography).
Photography prints – framed as well as on metal coasters and magnets with images on them. Come see existing work, order custom items, schedule a family shoot in The Knight Park, or simply gawk at the beautiful photos and art-enhanced objects.
We’re hosting David for the first time at the Featured Artist tent, space 24.

Small Bills and a Bathroom Key
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day. For guest vendors who might not be aware, I also have a key to Perkins Art Center, a Market sponsor, the primary benefit of which, for our vendors is INDOOR PLUMBING!

VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.
Flexible Site Plan
Changes will continue to occur throughout the season as vendors come and go and as we learn more about how neighbors interact. I remind you no spaces are ever guaranteed and require your cooperation if I have to move your location any given week.

We’re back to a more rational layout this week after last week’s disruptions for the Book Festival. Tasty Temptations

Tasty Temptations. Our indomitable Market shopper and facebooker is back with photos of her trove from SAT OCT 06. Ordinarily, we are treated to the bounty of uncooked, raw, preparation-needy ingredients TT has gathered from the tables she’s patronized (it seems she shops from EVERYONE!). But this week, we’re treated to this photo of a meal that required only purchase power. From Constellation Collective, the quiche, from Indogrow Farm, the parsley microgreens, and of course, from Revolution Roasters, the fresh-ground brew. Wanna see the whole season of Market goodies in one place? https://www.facebook.com/JSOcooks/
Susan Mauer Lynch

Susan Mauer Lynch. In yet another “first” for Susan, this week she’s produced a simply gorgeous verbal portrait of our legacy farm Rick Hymer. Sure, she also praises and prepares his cabbage and his sweet potatoes, but this week it’s not just the recipes you should read her for . . . it’s the tribute that she pays to a farmer who has devoted a lifetime to serving his community and his friends at the Market that will reward your visit to her blog. I urge everyone to click the link to this week’s post from “The Yellow Room Upstairs.”

CAMILLE PERUTO / DAVE KELLY
Two Great Solo Acts.
EAST STAGE MUSIC TENT. Camille Peruto. Singer-songwriter Camille Peruto blends elements of folk, pop, and rock to tell stories through music. She’s got talent, a fiery spirit, and a very large and loyal following. With a repertoire of 500 songs, she’ll be happy to handle requests.
WEST STAGE UNDER PATCO. Dave Kelly. Among the stringed things Dave employs to make his music, whether guitar or lap steel or mandolin, we often neglect to mention his vocal cords. They’re stringed instruments, right? Come hear Dave and ask him to belt one out.

BRACE AND BIT COFFEE TABLE
FEATURED ARTIST: Blair Buchanan (Brace and Bit).
Bruce makes magic out of wood, but he’s too humble to say so. Instead, he says, “My style draws on aspects of local manufacturers, and is derived from the mechanical and farmhouse roots of America, merging traditional, contemporary, and industrial design aesthetics. Products are conceived and fabricated, utilizing modern manufacturing methods, with the skills of the human hands.” Mm-hmm. Decide for yourself. Collingswood SAT OCT 06
Another Lovely Fall Saturday.
Very cool temps in the upper 60s, mostly sunny and dry but ridiculously humid. Light breezes. Sounds like autumn produce-shopping weather. Let’s all get out and support our Jersey Fresh farmers while the crops are in.

The official forecast from Weather.com

Siteplan for SAT OCT 06
Greg and Karen Hurley have completed their season and will not return this year. AT Buzby is also finished for the year, as is Eckert Farm. We will probably also lose Les Viereck in a week or so, all of which departures will make room for the local artists and crafters who will participate in the Handmade Holidays.
This week, the site plan is altered by the need to give up Irvin Avenue to vehicle traffic for the Collingswood Book Fair. Nature’s Own Farm has relocated for one week to the west end and Buck Wild Bison takes a place on the “sunny side.” Headquarters Farm Lamb and Woods Edge Wool will return next week and resume their spaces in “Carnivore Corner” at the east end of the Market.
Meanwhile, we have a beautiful day shaping up. Let’s sell some Jersey Fresh!

Lisa Grant (Jersey Girl Cooks). Caramel Nectarine Tart. Nectarines from Wm. Schober Sons Orchards take center stage in this simple but delicious production. A wonderful combination of caramel sauce with sliced nectarines in a flaky puff pastry. This year’s nectarines are sweet and juicy. You can’t eat one without juice dripping down your chin . . . unless you bake it into a tart. This tart is company- worthy, but you can bake it in under 30 minutes. Follow the link to Lisa’s blog to see how many steps you can skip and still produce this beautiful dessert using only 3 ingredients.

CHEERFUL MORNING APPLE COFFEE CAKE
Susan Mauer Lynch (Yellow Room Upstairs). Cheerful Morning Apple Coffee Cake. Susan credits this coffee cake, which she has made weekly when the apples are right for (cough) years since her wedding day. Can we credit the apple cake for her long and happy marriage? It’s worth a try, simple to make, and this week the apples are right at Fruitwood Farms and Wm. Schober Sons Orchards. You’ll need a wooden spoon, and big mugs for the coffee or tea, and that’s about it. Complete instructions and wedding reminiscences abound at Susan’s blog. https://yellowroomupstairs.wordpress.com/2018/09/17/cheerful-morning-apple-coffee-cake/

RED CURRANT TOMATO GALETTE
Stef Perna (treatbelly). Red Currant Tomato Galette. Stef has a keen eye for new produce she can turn into food art. When Les Viereck debuted his baskets of very tiny tomatoes, they piqued her interest, but it was weeks before she developed her recipe for red currant tomato galettes. Nutrition aside, these little beauties make a unique and sensational presentation in their folded crusts. Follow the link to Stef’s blog for the recipe and more amazing photos.

WEST STAGE UNDER PATCO. Matinee Relics. We liked them so much we’ve invited them back for the second week in a row! Small accordion, big guitar. Regina Baker and Kevin Sullivan are “two separate people who share one affection for old jazz music, standards, beautifully-written-but-decades-forgotten songs, and Manouche-style swing.”

Lorraine Delphey L’Originals

ROPE HOT PLATE
FEATURED ARTIST. Lorraine Delphey (L’Originals). Lorraine makes rustic cotton rope baskets in her own original designs, rope hot pads, hand-knitted discloths and fleece neck pillows. She’s been a popular vendor for years at our annual Handmade Holidays in November. Here’s your chance to get an early look at her freshest work long before the gift-buying rush of our annual fall celebration of local craft and arts.

THANK YOU

Collingswood SAT AUG 18
Too soon to predict weather.
Farmers’ Market Director David Hodges will be off on his annual one-week vacation (this year to Copenhagen and Stockholm) on SAT AUG 18, but expects the Market to experience a typical New Jersey summer Saturday morning: humid with a chance of showers.

Siteplan for SAT AUG 18
The plan is truncated this week to accommodate traffic for Collingswood’s annual Crafts and Fine Arts Festival.
The usual Meat Market at the east end of the Market (the bottom of the site plan) is turned over to vehicle traffic, so Nature’s Own Farm and Woods Edge Wools will take the week off.
However, Buck Wild Bison and the new Headquarters Farm Lamb tables will move to the west end of the Market (the top of the site plan), so you can stock up on those favorites.
You’ll also find Hillacres Pride in their usual location for meats and cheeses from their own livestock.

TASTY ZEPPOLES FROM VILLA BARONE
REVELATION CAFÉ! Local food heroes Revolution Roasters and the Constellation Collective have teamed up to form a new food-and-beverage café at the west end of the Market. Pull up a chair in their seating area and enjoy locally-roasted coffee and breakfast treats.
Amber Grain Bakery has closed its doors to give baker Stephen Kramer a chance to take a new job as a product development wizard. We’ll try to coax Dulce to the Market to ensure that we always have a BID bakery presence.
Villa Barone. Giovanni (John) Barone will stand in for his father Guido this week, selling sauces, perhaps cheeses, the very popular zeppoles, and other Italian favorites from this popular Collingswood restaurant.
Sara’s Produce, by special arrangement, is the one source for produce NOT grown in New Jersey. They are mandated to bring us the “exotics” so our shoppers won’t need to go to the supermarket for an avocado or a lemon.
