All 3 November Handmade Holidays
Welcome Artists and Crafters. We’re delighted to host you for the 2015 Handmade Holidays event at the Collingswood Farmers’ Market.
Whether you’re a Market veteran or a Market rookie, these instructions will help insure a smooth arrival and setup during what can be a hectic hour. You’ll be moving into a Market that is already well established, joining dozens of vendors with their own customary locations, setup procedures, and traffic patterns. Do not assume that you can arrive when you like and drive into the Market to set up. Take it easy, stay aware, and remember you are a guest.
Study your location
- Further down this post you will find the site plans for all four November Saturdays.
- Study the plans for all the Saturdays you’ve scheduled.
- We’ve done our best to avoid bouncing you around.
- Except for this first, weather-altered week, you should be in the same location, but check.
- The first farm vendors arrive at 6am. You are welcome to arrive with them.
- Arrive no later than 7am. You need to be ready to sell at 8am.
- David will be on site wearing red sweatshirt and/or jacket and a Market cap.
- You may text David to let him know you’ve arrived.
- Text, don’t call, (856) 979-6653
If you’re on the “Speedline side” of the Market (spaces 50-89)
- STOP
- Stop at the west entrance to the Market.
- DO NOT proceed directly to your space and put up a tent.
- David will guide you to your space when the traffic permits.
- You will have at most 15 minutes to unload your gear and remove your vehicle from the Market.
If you’re on the North side of the Market (spaces 1-49)
- DO NOT drive into the Market at all.
- You’ll park briefly alongside the parking meters on the north side to unload.
Don’t command a valuable parking space that shoppers can turn over a dozen times.
- David will have Vendor Parking Passes for you
- Park in the Lumberyard Garage for free
- Saving spaces for shoppers means more of them will visit your tent and table.
Have the latest plan with you
- This blog is easy to bring on your smartphone.
- The site plan is subject to change.
- The latest version is always live at the blog.
- If you bring a printed copy of your plan, it might not be current.
- Don’t be late, but text ahead if you’re going to be late.

- Remain patient.
Drive the right direction
- Traffic is ONE WAY, west to east.
- The top of the site plan is the entrance.
- Spaces 50-89 wait for David to escort your car.
- Spaces 1-49 do not drive into the Market.
- Spaces 1-49 load from the “parking meter” side of the space
Look for the chalk
- Market space numbers are marked with chalk on the pavement.
- Market spaces are parking space dimensions, 10 feet wide by 16 feet deep.
- Lines are drawn diagonally, but your spaces are square.
- The Market provides space only.
- Bring your own tables and tents.
- November can be windy; tents require weights for safety.
- Plan your displays so that your products don’t fall or blow away.
Unload quickly
- The “drive” down the middle gets very congested.
- At most, you have 15 minutes to unload.
- Stay to the side to permit others to pass.
- Don’t even think about parking your vehicle in your space.
- Get a free Vendor Parking Pass from David.
- If you take a prime parking spot for four hours, customers can’t use it.
Be a good neighbor
- The Market is a wonderful community of vendors who cooperate.

Joe Williams will be on hand to sell Market Permit leashes this week. We are still attempting to find a replacement shelter or animal welfare agency to substitute for an emergency cancellation.

Small Bills and a Bathroom Key
Many of you know, but for those of you who don’t, I carry small bills for vendors who run out of singles during the Market day. For guest vendors who might not be aware, I also have a key to Perkins Art Center, a Market sponsor, the primary benefit of which, for our vendors is INDOOR PLUMBING! 
Vendors Please Enforce: “No Permit, No Purchase”
This won’t be easy, but it’s necessary. If good dog behavior is important to you, you’ll comply in June with the No Permit, No Purchase policy, declining to serve customers who don’t choose to cooperate with the Permitting and Behavior Guidelines. David Hodges will distribute a small batch of Dog Behavior Guidelines to all vendors for distribution to anyone who appears at your table attempting to make purchases with a non-permitted dog.
VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.

- CHARLIE’S CREPES takes a familiar space between Schober Orchards and DanLynn Organic Farm.
- WECKERLY’S ICE CREAM, and GARDEN STATE JERSEY FRESH JUICE find spaces in the Market vacated by the early departure of A.T. Buzby Farm.
- NEIL’S KNIFE SHARPENING SERVICE will set up in the middle of the Market, in the spaces vacated by Viereck Farm.
- A brand new company, ORIGIN ALMOND MILK, will debut this week between the Guest Artist and DanLynn Organic Farm.
- The early departure of AT Buzby and Hurley’s Landscaping have created space within the Market, so all our guest vendors will find space in the “center” spaces. We will not need an additional Guest Vendor Section this week.
Guest Artist Steven Silvasy (Jawnprints)
Steven makes digital watercolor prints in Philadelphia. He’ll be releasing a Collingswood series of what he calls Jawn Prints for his first appearance at the Market.

NEW JERSEY AID FOR ANIMALS will staff the Dog Tent for us this week, to provide Market Permit Leashes to pet owners who haven’t yet legitimized their dogs. Alongside NJAFA will be the Mount Laurel Animal Hospital. Together, the two agencies will host a Halloween Pet Costume Contest. Should be a howl and a hoot.
BID Vendors
Perennial favorites DiBartolo Bakery, Villa Barone, Cheese Etc., and Sara’s Produce will attend. This will be the final week this season for the BID Vendor area.
Starting SAT NOV 07, most of the spaces will be devoted to artists and artisans for the November Handmade Holidays program.
NEW BID VENDOR
THE SQUARE MEAL, serving simple foods using responsible and locally sourced ingredients, will appear for the first time at this week’s Market.

Guest Artist Jeanne Whitehead Fiber Art
Jeanne Whitehead calls herself “Out of the Flock, LLC.”
She makes simple, well-made fiber arts and crocheted goods ranging from scarves to household items such as cotton towels, dish cloths, and scrubbies. I’ll have to get some pictures of her setup for our facebook and Marketeer files. Check her out in the Guest Artist space.

In keeping with environmentally friendly elements and a commitment to design, she uses fair trade and hand-made beads to enhance the overall appeal of her wearable art.

Lisa Broderick-Cohen is an internationally board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) who works for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and in private practice. That background, plus her education in art, design and herbalism, prompted her to create a line of products for new, postpartum and breastfeeding mothers. Her products are completely organic, vegan, and the only products to come to market designed by an IBCLC.

Weather forecast for Saturday.
Chilly but not a hurricane. The rain that will fall overnight Friday into Saturday morning is not from Hurricane Joaquin. Neither are the 20mph winds. But they’ll combine to make the setup hours both wet and briskly breezy. According to this newest forecast, rain will stop just as the Market opens, making tents perhaps unnecessary. Those who opt for tents will certainly need to tie them down or weight them against the gusts.

Haddon Avenue will be open and passable.
Without guests in our Guest Vendor area, Irvin Avenue (in front of Perkins) will be open to vehicle traffic (see site plan above).
OCT 03 Guest Vendors
- WECKERLY’S ICE CREAM takes a familiar space between Schober Orchards and DanLynn Organic Farm.
- Guest vendors were severely limited by the elimination of the Guest Vendor area to accommodate the traffic needs of the Collingswood Book Festival. That Festival may be relocated to the Middle School, but Irvin Avenue will remain open to vehicle traffic.

Low temperatures and impossibly high humidity during setup. Temps climb only to 80 during the Market, skies clear to sunny, and humidity gets much more bearable. All in all, a wonderful DRY Market day.

- CHARLES KOORY’S CREPE CART will return with fresh fillings produced from our own Collingswood Farmers’ Market fruits, vegetables, and BACON! Find them between DanLynn and Schober.

- SOOM FOODS with their hummus and other sesame specialties.

This won’t be easy, but it’s necessary. If good dog behavior is important to you, you’ll comply in June with the No Permit, No Purchase policy, declining to serve customers who don’t choose to cooperate with the Permitting and Behavior Guidelines. David Hodges will distribute a small batch of Dog Behavior Guidelines to all vendors for distribution to anyone who appears at your table attempting to make purchases with a non-permitted dog.
VENDOR PARKING PERMITS
It’s good business to save the best parking spaces for SHOPPERS! Most visitors will tell you it’s tough to find parking at the Market. We make things worse by parking our own vehicles in spaces that could be used and re-used many times by shoppers. Please encourage your table crew to park for free in the Lumberyard Parking Garage (just across Collings Avenue from the west entrance). There are plenty of spaces inside, and the walk back to the Market takes 3 minutes.

DRY (literally a 0% chance of precipitation at 10AM), with temperatures climbing from the high-60s to the low-80s by the end of the market. I bit humid when we open, but humidity eases as the temps climb. Wonderful Market weather.

No Market Director this week
David Hodges will take his one-Saturday vacation next week. He’ll be traveling in Hungary and Czechoslovakia for a week and will miss the SAT AUG 29 Market. This Saturday, we’ll do our best to set your location for the week he’ll be away so there will be no confusion during his absence.
Green Paint Stripes
On the “sunny side,” where spaces are not always fixed, I have painted a few important stripes with green spray paint to mark the limits of some larger vendors.
There are stripes to mark the ends of Springdale Farms, AT Buzby, Rick Hymer, DanLynn Organic, and Schober Orchards. Everyone else should be able to figure out your locations based on the positions those early arrivers take up.
Joe Williams (who helps out with our Dog Leash Program and who sets up and knocks down the Market tents) will be on the site with site plans to help resolve any confusion.
