Voorhees SAT AUG 24, 2013

AUG 24 Voorhees

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

We have a good roster of vendors this week and spectacular weather planned.

Vendor Notes

  • Bellview Winery is back to take over the wine space.
  • Sweet Pea CSA will be off for several weeks but will return September 14.
  • Duffield and Fruitwood are back with wide varieties after successful weeks. Fruitwood has been selling out of many products, and Duffield’s breads are gaining momentum, especially those breads they sample.
  • Jalma’s Beach Plums will be back with their specialty preserves.
  • After selling out of beef and yak earlier this month, Woods Edge Wools is back this week with their wide array of products, including fine alpaca woolens. Is it too early to be thinking of cooler weather and warm garments . . . Christmas gifts?
  • Blueberry Fields was at the Collingswood Craft fair last Saturday, but Carol returns to Voorhees this week with her handmade soaps and scrubs.

The dessert baker is still at least a week away. Lindsey and I agree the most important additions for September/October will be fall flowers/plants and an egg/cheese vendor. I’m working on both.

SEPTEMBER SPECIAL EVENT. How does a September Mardi Gras theme sound? I’ve got a line on a New Orleans jazz piano player/singer who might also bring along a clarinet player. It’s a fun sound.

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

Last week, the highly successful Caribbean Block Party, was certainly a crowd-pleaser (pleasant for vendors too!). This week won’t feature leis and steel drums, but the weather will be exemplary and shoppers should be in a very good mood!

Vendor Notes

  • We have a good full roster this week.
  • Be sure to welcome back Monroeville Winery.
  • Sweet Pea CSA is with us again with herbs and seasonal vegetables.
  • Duffield and Fruitwood are back with wide varieties after very successful weeks.
  • Kemp’s Kettle Corn had their best week of the season last week. We know every week isn’t a home run, but we’re glad they hit it out of that park at the Party.
  • Our rotating roster of guest vendors includes Jalma Farms with their extraordinary Beach Plum products, and the exquisite chocolates of John and Kira’s.
  • If Hank Sauce, Talluto, Catelli Duo, Hazlett Organic, and Blueberry Fields all take their rightful places, we’ll once again be hosting a very diverse display of exemplary products. I hope you’re all as proud as we are of the roster this Market boasts.

Brent Walker of Woods Edge Wools is out in the wilderness this week shopping for more breeding yak to add to the herd at their farm. We’ll see them again soon (and certainly as the weather cools and alpaca yarn items become hard to resist).

I’m vetting a couple of dessert/sweets bakers to bring a little something extra to the table. Expect a new addition to the roster in a week or two.

Voorhees SAT AUG 10, 2013

Voorhees AUG 10Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

Weather should be cool tomorrow (though humidity might make it feel a bit tropical). Just right for a Caribbean Block Party!

Caribbean Party

The most successful Saturdays this summer have been the special event days. Crowds are bigger and sales are stronger. This week is another Caribbean Party. The steel drum band will provide the entertainment.

Vendor Notes

  • We have a good full roster this week.
  • Be sure to welcome back Duncan Welch from Hazlett Organic.
  • Sweet Pea CSA is with us again and having such a good season she plans to come every week next year.
  • Bellview Winery is with us this week. Remind your customers that we have fine wines every week.
  • NEW PRODUCT: Duffield will be bringing their artisan breads again (and sampling one). Talluto brought baguettes last week, too, so our customers can find fresh wonderful breads without a bakery vendor.
  • Kemp’s Kettle Corn did really well the last time we positioned them next to the kids’ activities. We hope they’ll do a brisk business this week too.
  • There’s room for Blueberry Fields and Momma’s Home Made applesauce too. We hope to see them both.

Voorhees SAT AUG 03, 2013

Voorhees AUG 03

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

Any showers Saturday will develop after the Market closes. We’ll be comfortable and dry.

Vendor Notes

  • Blueberry Fields is back for two more weeks.
  • Woods Edge Wools Farm is out of meat again (and short on staff). We’ll get them back when they have more of one or the other.
  • On the other hand, we’re very happy Sweet Pea CSA will be back this week with replenished stocks of edibles. Alex says: “I’ll have basil, peppers, and flowers galore!  Probably some cherry tomatoes, zucchini, and eggplant as well.”
  • Bellview Winery is our Jersey Wine vendor this week. Be sure to remind your customers we have wine every week.
  • NEW BREAD VENDOR! This is a wonderful surprise. Duffield Farm Stand has started baking gorgeous artisan breads. I got to sample three of them last week (actually, my dog Shelby beat me to one of them) and they are real winners—hearty and healthy and nicely priced too. So, not only do we have beautiful bread, but also it comes from one of our cherished regulars.
  • Waldor Orchids is back this week, as is our newer vendor, Jalma Farms (the beach plum grower and preserve maker).
  • There’s room in the plan for Momma’s Home Made. I’m never quite sure if they’re coming, but we can accommodate them if they do.
  • Hank Sauce is back too. So is Kemp’s Kettle Corn. I wonder if they’d consider a hot sauce corn snack.
  • Reach out with best wishes to Duncan Welsh of Hazlett Organic if you know him. He won’t be here this week, but he’d like to know he’s missed.

Voorhees SAT JUL 27, 2013

JUL 27 Voorhees

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

This Saturday will be fantastic weather for a Farmers’ Market. 80s, partly sunny. Let’s play two!

Vendor Notes

  • Blueberry Fields has had two good weeks and will be back again AUG 03 and AUG 10, but not this week.
  • BACK WITH YAK. Woods Edge Wools Farm will occupy the “center square” this week after an absence. They’re bringing ground yak patties and sausage, and maybe some beef. They’ve been selling so well the stock is low, but we’re happy to welcome them back.
  • Sweet Pea CSA is also taking off a week to replenish supplies, but will return.
  • Bellview Winery is our Jersey Wine vendor this week. Be sure to welcome them back and remind your customers we have wine every week.
  • Duffield Farm Stand—thankfully—will return this week after last week’s unfortunate emergency. Matt is doing fine and now has “a backup plan” in place in the event he ever has to miss another Market. Please welcome him warmly back to his rightful spot at the end.
  • Waldor Orchids is off this week. Jalma Farms (the beach plum grower and preserve maker) will alternate weeks here and at another Market. They’ll be back AUG 03.
  • There’s room in the plan for Momma’s Home Made. I’m never quite sure if they’re coming, but we can accommodate them if they do.
  • John and Kira’s will be back with gourmet chocolates. Hank Sauce is back too. So is Kemp’s Kettle Corn, so we’ve got the sweet and savory and spicy and snacky covered.
  • Since we have a bit of room available, I’m giving Hazlett Organic enough space to park a vehicle in their regular location.
MARKET EVENT: Welcome back “Guitar Man” John Rossi. He may be embarrassed by the nickname and had nothing to do with choosing it. It’s just what I like to call him. We’re always happy to host him.

Voorhees SAT JUL 20 2013

JUL 20 Voorhees

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

This Saturday will be HOT and humid but dry. Expect a beautiful if steamy day.

Building Momentum

Last week’s Island event and very full Market did a lot to encourage shoppers to return for another day. We’ll continue to build on our momentum this week by consolidating our newer vendors into the mix and adding new participants.

Vendor Notes

  • Blueberry Fields will be back again after two successful weeks.
  • Sweet Pea CSA is back too, with room for her truck.
  • Hank had a good week last week and will return with awesome hot sauces.
  • Monroeville Winery is back to take the Jersey Wine space this week. Be sure to welcome them back.
  • Mike Scappa at the Talluto table will again represent the artisan breads of American Harvest of Mount Laurel. Help your customers locate this new feature please.
  • Kemp’s Kettle Corn kept the kids entertained last week while they waited for their turn with the balloon lady. They’re back for a return engagement.
  • Welcome back Waldor Orchids, who missed out on the Caribbean party, but will be with us this week (when Voorhees will FEEL LIKE the Caribbean).
  • NEW VENDOR: Jalma Farms (as anticipated) will attend for their first market this SAT JUL 20. Introduce yourself to Alma and ask about her unique beach plum products. (You can also get the story on New Jersey’s own super-fruit, the aronia berry!)
  • OLD/NEW VENDOR: We haven’t seen much of Momma’s Home Made this year, but they’ll be back this week too, with everybody’s favorite homemade applesauce.
  • Thank you as always to our indispensable regular vendors, who don’t make news by coming and going, but do such a wonderful job every week of keeping our customers coming back. Thank you, thank you Fruitwood, Talluto, Duffield, Catelli, and Hazlett Organic!
MARKET VISITORS: Reminder, this week or next, you may be approached by prospective vendors from Lawless Jerky and Marc Kaplan’s Kelp Chips. Please make them feel welcome. We can all benefit from adding a variety of quality vendors to our mix.

Voorhees SAT JUL 13

Voorhees JUL 13

Hello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

Weather should be cooler and less humid this week with Friday’s rain ending well before Market opening. Expect a beautiful day.

Caribbean Party

The most successful Saturdays this summer have been the special event days. Crowds are bigger and sales are stronger. This week is another Caribbean Party. The steel drum band will provide the entertainment. In addition to Catelli Duo, who do a beautiful job every week, this week three more of our restaurants (Rodizio, Elena Wu, and Qdoba) will be setting up sampling tents to tempt shoppers to linger longer at the Market. Dress for the islands and bring out your best stuff.

Vendor Notes

  • In short, WE’RE FULL!
  • Blueberry Fields had a good first week and will return this week SAT JUL 13.
  • Sweet Pea CSA is back after too long away (and two weeks earlier than expected!) I’ve placed Alex between two vendors who do not park vehicles in the Market. I hope her neighbors will give her the room she needs for her little pickup. (There’s no room to spare.)
  • Bellview Winery is with us this week. Remind your customers that we have fine wines every week.
  • NEW PRODUCT: Artisan breads from American Harvest of Mount Laurel will be presented by Talluto’s Washington Township for the first time this week. Tell your customers they no longer have to make a separate trip to the bakery.
  • NEW VENDOR: Kemp’s Kettle Corn will join us for the first time this week!
  • MARKET VISITORS: This week or next, you may be approached by prospective vendors from Lawless Jerky and Marc Kaplan’s Kelp Chips. Please make them feel welcome. We can all benefit from adding a variety of quality vendors to our mix.

JUN 15 VoorheesHello, Voorhees Marketeers!

General Notes

Gorgeous weather and a fun special promotion should combine to create a wonderful Market Saturday.

Vendor Notes

  • LATE ADDITION: Rodizio Grill is joining the Market this week in space 04, in front of Burger 21. Visit Emeritus in its new location at space 08.
  • Bellview Winery returns this week for their first appearance in June. Welcome them back. Remind your customers that we have fine wines every week.
  • Renee Sikking and Sue Sikking Kearns of Sikking Flowers, Vineland, will visit Saturday to scout our market for their family farm. They’re an excellent, reputable grower with plenty of Market experience. If you get a chance to meet them, please encourage them to bring their hanging baskets, cut flowers, bouquets, and arrangements for the rest of the season. They would complement our roster beautifully.
  • Hank Sauce will be back for a second week.
  • Woods Edge Wool Farm will be here with a freezer load of beef and probably some yak. They’ll also have alpaca wearables including socks and scarves, their gorgeous blankets, PLUS beeswax candles and honey.
  • Guuky Natural Cosmetics (Pure and Natural, Green and Clean, from right here in Mount Laurel) will take a tent this week with their own line products. We think they’ll find our shoppers receptive to their “made by the vendor” approach.

caribbeanCaribbean Block Party

Activities begin at 9am and end at noon.
  • Steel Drums Calypso Band
  • Liberty Travel will join us under the Information tent
  • Pony rides will take place in the field along the retainer wall
  • Baby Farm Animal Petting Zoo also along the retainer wall.
  • The Children’s Discovery Museum Tent
  • Floral Lei’s will be available for vendors to give as gifts with purchase.
  • Palm Tree decor.
  • Vendors requested to embrace the theme by wearing colorful island garb
  • Balloon Artist will be on site near Duffield’s where children will most likely want a few dozen extra donuts while they wait their turns.
